For the last two decades of his life, He had drug problems. Therein he became homeless and suffered a stroke which forced him to walk with a cane.
Lockridge was featured on A&E’s Intervention TV series, on which he claimed that the intervention and the help of his sons saved his life.
Lockridge’s appearance on the show is noted for a notorious moment where his son Lamar says, “Because I know, somewhere deep down in my heart, I still love you,” which caused Lockridge to break down crying hard enough to the point where he was screaming at the top of his lungs. This spawned the internet meme “Best Cry Ever”.
Lockridge was also caught on video defending himself by knocking out a bully with a single one-two jab-cross combination near a convenience store. In interviews, he expressed a desire to be drug-free, having stated that he had never been this clean, even in his fighting days. “I feel so good today that if I hadn’t suffered the stroke I would go for a title shot,” he stated. He was also interested in becoming a boxing trainer.

Former boxing champion Rocky Lockridge passed away at 60 due to complications from a stroke after years of publicly battling drug problems.
Lockridge’s family confirmed his death on Thursday.
‘It is with great pain but a whole heart that I tell you family and friends that my father Ricky Lockridge aka Rocky Lockridge has passed away,’ said Lockridge’s son Ricky, as quoted by TMZ. ‘All he wanted was to be in the comfort of his home with friends/ family. God has called him to walk through the gates of heaven.’

As a boxer, Lockridge was best known for handing Roger Mayweather his first loss with a first-round knockout in 1984 to win the WBA world super featherweight title.
After defeating the notorious Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s uncle, Lockridge would later add the IBF super featherweight crown before retiring with a 44-9 record in 1992.
More recently, Lockridge became popularized in a meme after weeping with family members on the A&E show ‘Intervention.’
